Takayuki Yamada as Sugimoto in in Chasing My Girl (Oarai ni mo Hoshi wa Furu Nari)From Tokyograph comes word of a new starring role for Takayuki Yamada (Train Man, Crows Zero). This time around he'll be playing one of a group of 7 unique men who have been competing for the affections of a mysterious "madonna" in Yuichi Fukuda's adaptation of his own theater troupe's 2006 play, Chasing My Girl (Oarai ni mo Hoshi wa Furu Nari).

As each guy recounts their individual efforts to win her over, various embarrassing details expose their individual flaws. Yamada plays the most narcissistic member of the group, but when it's discovered that he's actually been going through the maddona's mail he's immediately identified as a stalker. This all sounds a whole lot like the 2007 film Kisaragi, which centered around 5 fans of a certain gravure idol who organize a memorial on the 1-year anniversary of her suicide. Instead, they spend their time obsessively rehashing events and eventually come to the conclusion that she must have been the victim of foul play.

For a better look at the cast, here's the splash image from the film's newly-launched official website:

Oarai Stalker cast

From left to right: Ken Yasuda "the poser attorney", Yu Koyanagi "the high-strung idiot", Tsuyoshi Muro "the prince of infidelity", Takayuki Yamada "the misunderstood stalker", Yusuke Yamamoto "the shark maniac", Shunya Shiraishi "100% all-natural", and Jiro Sato "the 40-year-old dad"

Unfortunately it looks like the actress who plays the object of their affections is being kept a secret for now. But chances are if they're willing to show that much of her face she's probably a relative newcomer.

Distributor Nikkatsu will be releasing "Chasing My Girl" in Japan sometime this Fall.

Just a thought on who that actress might be, looking from that pic I get a feeling that it looks like Yu Yamada just from that shot of the lower face.

Probably way off though lol.

Definitly interested in this though I think.
