Posted 3 weeks ago by Kevin Ouellette

Shochiku has uploaded a new web-exclusive trailer for Naoyoshi Shiotani’s Blood-C: The Last Dark to their YouTube channel.

The movie follows up last year’s Blood-C manga and anime series. Blood-C was created by the all-female manga artists group CLAMP and features an original story inspired Production I.G’s Blood franchise.

The story is set in Tokyo as a Youth Protection Ordinance is enforced which prevents underage people from going out at night and limits their use of the internet. Surat has uncovered information on a secret organization called “Tower” which backs Nanahara and is engaging in mysterious human experiments.

When a member of Surat begins snooping around the subway to discover more about Tower’s activities, vicious creatures suddenly appear. Just then, a young girl wielding a katana appears. Saya has arrived…

Trailer released for Kazuyoshi Kumakiri's "Blazing Famiglia"

Posted 4 weeks ago by Kevin Ouellette

The Japanese film website Cinema Today has uploaded the new trailer for Kazuyoshi Kumakiri’s Blazing Famiglia to their YouTube channel.

The film is a live-action adaptation of Hiroshi Tanaka’s manga series “Bakugyaku Kazoku” (1999-2004). The series followed up Tanaka’s BADBOYS manga (1988-1996), which centered around biker gangs in Hiroshima and was made into a movie in 2011. Bakugyaku Kazoku is set in the Kanto region and features different themes than its predecessor with much older characters.

In the movie, comedian Yoshimi Tokui stars as Tetsu Hino, former leader of Kanto’s number one biker gang. Nowadays, he’s a middle-aged construction worker with a rebellious son named Shuhei (Kento Hayashi) who doesn’t respect him.

One day, Tetsu is reunited with his old friends in the wake of an assault. Faced with his past and experiencing strong emotions, Tetsu rediscovers the passion he had in his younger days. Soon, the man behind for the assault, a rival biker from the old days named Igarashi (Jun Murakami), enters the fray.

“Blazing Famiglia” will be released by Toei in Japan on September 8, 2012.

Edit (4/21): Fixed English title and cleaned up description a bit.

Combined trailer for "Real Onigokko" 3, 4, and 5

Posted 2 months ago by Kevin Ouellette

A new trilogy of Real Onigokko movies is set for release in Japan this May. A combined trailer for all three movies was released earlier today.

In 2008, Yusuke Yamada’s popular Real Onigokko novel was adapted as a relatively low budget movie starring Takuya Ishida, Shunsuke Daito, and Mitsuki Tanimura (international English title: The Chasing World). In the story, a teenager named Tsubasa Sato is pulled into a parallel world where anyone with the surname Sato is hunted relentlessly by creepy masked men under orders from a mysterious king. Anyone who dies in the parallel world also dies in Tsubasa’s original world, so he spends the majority of the story protecting the alternate version of his sister.

The movie did surprisingly well with teens and tweens due to repeat after-school viewings, and a sequel followed in 2010.

In the new movies, people with type B blood are victims of the game. Each movie has a unique setting and features a different young “ikemen” actor in the lead. Part 3 stars Kento Yamazaki, part 4 stars Atsushi Arai, and part 5 stars Masahiro Inoue.

The new movies will be screened in three consecutive weeks at United Cinemas from May 12, 2012. For convenience, they’ll also be available from J:COM On Demand on the same dates as the theatrical releases.

DVDs for each movie will be released on May 9, June 6, and July 7, respectively.

Second teaser for live-action "Rurouni Kenshin" movie (English-subtitled)

Posted 2 months ago by Kevin Ouellette

A new teaser has been released for Keishi Otomo’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin. This is the same teaser that aired on the NTV morning show ZIP! last week, minus the overlay and reaction shots. The first teaser was released back in December.

Based on a manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki, the movie stars Takeru Sato as Kenshin Himura, a once-feared swordsman who was formerly known as “Battosai” before becoming a wanderer and taking an oath not to kill anymore. During his travels, he helps Kaoru (Emi Takei)—an instructor at a kendo school called Kamiya Kasshin-ryu—and she invites him to stay at her dojo. Meanwhile, someone else using the name “Battosai” has been committing murders throughout the city.

“Rurouni Kenshin” will be released by Warner Bros. in Japan on August 25, 2012.
