Film distribution company Ace Deuce Entertainment has been slowly carving out a niche with a series of down-and-dirty low-budget action films lately with an eye toward international distribution. 2009 will see this trend ramp up with films like Hard Revenge, Milly: Bloody Battle and a new pair of silly over-the-top action flicks in the forthcoming sequel to last year’s Neo Action Double Feature.
The latest project announced in this vein is Kei Nakata’s succinctly titled Fist, a simply-premised action film set in a future where unpolluted water has become a precious resource and it’s up to one man (Ikki Funaki) to liberate the main supply from oppressive government overseers. The cast is a weird mix of established actors like Shun Sugata and some relative unknowns, but that’s usually the case in recent Japanese action movies. Aside from a few standouts like Miki Mizuno, there aren’t a whole lot of well-known actors trained in theatrical combat styles that don’t involve a katana.
The first teaser is now out; you can find it embedded after the break.
