According to a report by Variety, Japanese advertising agency Dentsu and Hayakawa Publishing Corp. have reached rights agreements for live-action film adaptations of two Japanese sci-fi novels: Issui Ogawa’s “Tokisuna no Ou” and Tow Ubukata’s Mardock Scramble.
Michael Davis (Shoot ‘Em Up) has already agreed to produce and direct the Mardock Scramble film. The original novel series involves a young prostitute named Rune Balot who’s brought back to life with cybernetic parts and sent to hunt down the crime boss who almost killed her. The story has already been adapted as two animated films in Japan, Mardock Scramble: The First Compression and Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion, which were released in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
