The upcoming horror film Higanjima is set to premiere at the 14th annual Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) on October 9th.
The Japan-Korea co-production is a live-action adaptation of a manga by Koji Matsumoto which was originally serialized in Young Magazine and turned into a text-based adventure for the PSP in 2005. Tae-gyun Kim (Volcano High, Crossing) directed and Tetsuya Oishi (Death Note, M.W.) wrote the screenplay. Hideo Ishiguro plays the main character, a teenager named Akira who travels to creepy Higan Island to find his missing older brother (Dai Watanabe) with the help of several friends. Unfortunately, the island is inhabited by vampires and no one has ever escaped alive.
A website recently opened up for the film, but all that's there right now is a flash mini game in which you throw balls of ohagi at disembodied vampire heads in conical straw hats until you run out and die. Now that's entertainment!
