I don't usually get into the habit of posting month-old news blurbs, but I think this one is worth an exception. I just noticed a few lines from this article posted on Eiga.com back on August 20th. It's a pretty boring article about sales and distribution until the very end where it says this:

"Distributed by Stylejam and based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's timeless work, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shojo) will offer a fresh take and new story while also paying homage to the original in this big screen resurrection. The cast will include Riisa Naka (a voice actress from Mamoru Hosoda's 2006 animated film), Akiyoshi Nakao, and Narumi Yasuda. A nation-wide release is planned for 2010."

As far as I know, this is the only update on the project since the blog Canned Dogs found a casting call for extras back in March and there hasn't been a legit movie announcement/press event yet. The casting of Naka is particularly interesting news if true. She made her film debut voicing Makoto Konno on the original Japanese audio track for Hosoda's '06 film and since then she's gone on to do a lot of live acting work on TV and in films like "Cafe Isobe" and "Pandora's Box".

Here are some old pictures of Naka dressed up like Makoto in 2006. They were posted on the animated film's official blog when they were putting photos together for some sort of promotional guide book.
