Hirokazu Koreeda‘s Air Doll wrapped filming a few days ago, and Yahoo! Japan Movies has posted a 5-minute making-of clip for for the movie with lots of Doona Bae goodness.
Bae plays a life-size air doll kept in the retro apartment of Hideo (Itsuji Itao), but over time she develops a soul of her own. One day she cheerfully fixes up her outfit and decides to enjoy a walk outside alone. She eventually meets a video store clerk named Junichi (Arata) and secretly falls in love. She hatches a plan to get a part-time job in the store alongside him, but an unexpected turn of events throws her fragile existence into turmoil. Through her subsequent journey of self-discovery she explores what it really means to be human.
Did I mention she can float?
Asmik Ace will be releasing Air Doll in Japanese theaters this year and Fortissmo Films is handling distribution in the rest of the world.

Yikes… I see what you mean now. Internet Explorer doesn’t like my embeds. I’ll look into it.
Edit: I think I fixed the problem. Now I just have to go back and edit my old embeds one by one.

I like Koreeda, but I thought his ‘commercial’ film Hana wasn’t up to his standards. Seemed too conventional, I guess. This one looks very intriguing, though. Where has Doona Bae been since the Host?

She did some TV drama work in the few years since the Host but I think she’s just sort of been slacking—messing around with photography and modeling casually. Granted it’s what I’d do if I was rich and famous (the slacking, not the modeling) but it’d be nice to see her in more movies.

lovely movie, delicate and sad. Outstanding cinematography.
Saw it at the Toronto Int’l Film Fest… Bae Doo-na was fantastic in the lead role, like she was born to play it.

Hi there,
I encounter problems viewing this, and
on Yahoo! Japan movies too…
Would you please kindly figure it out?
Thanks a lot.
