The Borrower Arrietty Japanese flyerEarly Thursday morning, a new trailer for Hiromasa Yonebayashi's upcoming Studio Ghibli animated film The Borrower Arrietty (Kari-gurashi no Arrietty) premiered on the NTV morning show Zoom-in!! Super.

Based on Mary Norton's 1953 novel "The Borrowers", the story involves tiny people who live inconspicuous lives, out of sight of humans. They're not fairies; in fact, they don't posses any magic at all -- they simply borrow what they need to live from humans.

14-year-old borrower Arrietty is a free spirit with a strong sense of curiosity. Although she's warned by her family to be careful and modest at all times, she mistakenly allows herself to be seen by a human boy.

Following the trailer, there's some additional footage of Mirai Shida, who voices Arrietty, and Ryunosuke Kamiki, who voices Sho.

Toho will be releasing "The Borrower Arrietty" in Japan on July 17, 2010.

I remember the film The Borrowers… from the late 90s - don’t remember much about it, but I know Tom Felton (Draco) and Mark Williams (Mr. Weasley) were in it.

A little disapointed moved from the book setting of jolly ole england. Was looking forward to Ghibli’s take on it.

Still the film looks awesome and should be an interesting take on the borrowers.
