Early Thursday morning, a new trailer for Hiromasa Yonebayashi‘s upcoming Studio Ghibli animated film The Borrower Arrietty (Kari-gurashi no Arrietty) premiered on the NTV morning show Zoom-in!! Super.
Based on Mary Norton’s 1953 novel “The Borrowers”, the story involves tiny people who live inconspicuous lives, out of sight of humans. They’re not fairies; in fact, they don’t posses any magic at all—they simply borrow what they need to live from humans.
14-year-old borrower Arrietty is a free spirit with a strong sense of curiosity. Although she’s warned by her family to be careful and modest at all times, she mistakenly allows herself to be seen by a human boy.
Toho will be releasing “The Borrower Arrietty” in Japan on July 17, 2010.
