Well people, if there ever was a video game series begging to be adapted to mindless exploitive movie form it was “Onechanbara”, and now that seems to be reality. The movie will be directed by Yohei Fukuda (cinematographer for Chikan Otoko) and will star Eri Otoguro as the main protagonist/zombie slasher Aya, Chise Nakamura as her little sister Saki, and Manami Hashimoto as Reiko the mystery woman. I’m not sure about the plot yet but if it’s true to the video games it probably goes something like this: Sparsely-dressed girls kill waves and waves of zombies to protect their city.

Here’s a gameplay video from Onechanbara Vortex for the Xbox360:

And pics of the actresses in their outfits:

Chise Nakamura as Saki

Manami Hashimoto as Reiko

Release is scheduled for late April 2008.

LOL. Too cool. The game looks awesome, btw. How come they haven’t released it here? Here’s hoping the movie will be fun.

that’s a really good question.. i know the US branch of D3 Publisher had plans to put vortex out in the US as of early 07 but they never followed through with it.. maybe they were waiting for some movie buzz first

I played the PS2 game and it was OK, basically just a button masher.  I’ll still see this movie though because Chise Nakamura = fiiiiiiiiine

Movie was cool. They could have used a hotter lead girl tho. Reminded me a bit of Azumi
