A bizarre series of murders occurs in which all of the victims have a large X carved in their flesh. Strangly, their murderers are different people, all found within the vicinity of the crime. They can give no motive other than thinking it was a perfectly normal thing to do. Police detective Takabe (Koji Yakusho) is put in charge of the case with the assistance of a psychologist and their investigation eventually leads them to a strange drifter with the ability to influence people through hypnosis. In dealing with this man, Takabe’s temper repeatedly gets the better of him and a battle of wills ensues.

Mario (Teah) is a Japanese-Brazilian ex-convict who hijacks a helicopter to rescue his Chinese girlfriend Kei (Michelle Reis) from deportation. He sets out to get 18 million yen to purchase fake passports in order to start a new life in Australia. Unfortunately his schemes are interrupted when he gets mixed with Kei’s ex-boyfriend, Ko, the leader of a gang of Triads. After mixing up suitcases during a drug deal gone bad, the couple is now on the run from both the Triads and Yakuza.

A low-ranking yakuza named Junpei steals 500 million yen from his own gang and subsequently gets sent to prison for 5 years, a modest penalty considering the alternative. When he gets out he hires a professional bodyguard named Kiba to protect him as he makes his way to the hiding place of the stolen cash. Along the way they’re confronted by vengeful yakuza and students from a rival dojo who hold a grudge against Kiba for his unabashed bravado regarding his martial arts skills.
