New poster for ‘The Machine Girl’

Not really a story per se, as I probably don't follow Fever Dreams releases as closely as the extreme cinema set, but I just noticed Noboru Iguchi stuck this new Japanese poster art for The Machine Girl on his blog. It's nice and big - *really* big in fact, so click the image below for a full-sized version.

Kuchisake Onna 2 trailer

Carved 2 production stillOkay, I've been out of the loop for a while but I'm back. Lots of stuff to catch up on so I'm starting really small and wading my way through all these updates I've been meaning to post over the past 3 weeks. The official website for Kuchisake Onna 2, the prequel to 2007's Kuchisake Onna, aka "Carved" now has a trailer on the front page of its website. In the movie 16-year-old Rin Asuka plays a high school girl named Mayumi whose older sister's ex-boyfriend disfigures her face with sulfuric acid, causing her to eventually become the murderous slit-mouthed woman. It was filmed on a lower budget than its predecessor but will get a legitimate theatrical release on March 22nd in Japan.

Phantom Film released the poster art and a new trailer for the live-action adaptation of 'Higurashi no Naku Koro ni' today. The movie, which will be released on May 10th, is a murder mystery based on a visual novel which was later adapted to a manga and anime series. In the story a boy named Keiichi (Goki Maeda) moves to the small village of Hinamizawa in 1983 and quickly fits in with his new peers. However, after the annual Watanagashi Festival some of his friends start to act weird and it's revealed through conversations with a veteran police officer (Tetta Sugimoto) that every year around this time mysterious murders and disappearances occur. Judging from the characters involved the movie is most likely limited to the first visual novel, Onikakushi-hen.

Cyberpunk icon Shozin Fukui returns with ‘The Hiding’

Posted by kevin at 5:46pm on Saturday, February 9, 2008 CDT

Filed under: Horror, Thriller, Future releases

Shozin Fukui, whose directorial style is often compared to that of Shinya Tsukamoto, put out two extremely strange DV-shot cyberpunk horror films in the 90s, 964 Pinocchio in 1991 and Rubber's Lover in 1996. Both of these were picked up by Unearthed Films and got released on R1 DVD in 2004 packaged with his previous shorts. After that he sort of dropped off the radar until 2006 when he put out two DVD releases, Onne and Den-Sen (Infection) - both of which went largely unnoticed. His latest offering, The Hiding (Senpuku) will be part of Cinema Artone Shimokitazawa's late show rotation from May 10th - June 6th 2008. 964 Pinocchio, Rubber's lover, and a completely re-edited version of Onne will also get separate screenings during the event.
