Upon checking my RSS feeds today I was met with a flood of headlines reporting of the death of legendary filmmaker Kon Ichikawa from pneumonia at 92. I’m not sure what could be added to what’s already been said, but he was responsible for a handful of the best movies of the past 60 years, inspired countless filmmakers with his work, and led a long full life. For anyone interested in his life, I’d definitely suggest Shunji Iwai’s 2006 documentary “The Kon Ichikawa Story” which is readily available on R2 DVD with English subtitles. Below are some links to other sites’ reporting of the news.
