CJ Entertainment releasing Miike’s ‘Ryu ga Gotoku’ with English subtitles

Korean distributor CJ Entertainment is releasing Takashi Miike‘s Ryu ga Gotoku (Like a Dragon) on region 3 DVD with English and Korean subtitles on February 26th. The movie, which was originally released in early 2007, is based on a big-budget PS2 game from 2005. The following year it was released in the US under the title “Yakuza”.

The story revolves around Kazuma Kiryuu (Kazuki Kitamura), a Yakuza who gets out of prison after serving a 10-year sentence and discovers his friend is missing and the entire criminal underworld is hunting for the 10 billion yen that was stolen from his Yakuza family. He ends up turning against his own family in order to protect a little girl named Haruka (Natsuo) who has something to do with the missing loot. Eventually he has to face off with his close friend Goro Majima (Goro Kishitani), who believes he’s the only one with the right to kill Kazuma.

Unfortunately the title hasn’t been picked up by any US retailers yet so if you live in North America and want it you’ll have to pony up close to $40 USD for it after shipping.
