No offense intended to the governor of Alaska, as she seems to be especially sensitive about these things, but Tetsu Maeda‘s School Days with a Pig (Buta ga Ita Kyoshitsu) now has a teaser trailer. You can find it at the film’s Yahoo! channel or right here, after the break.
The film stars Satoshi Tsumabuki as a rookie elementary school teacher who brings a pig into class one day for his students to raise throughout the year. However, he makes it clear that at the end of the year the pig will be slaughtered and eaten. It’s based on an award-winning 1993 TV documentary and was very loosely scripted in an attempt to catch realistic reactions from the 26 children that play students. Some other notable co-stars (at least to me) are Ren Osugi and Tomoko Tabata.
Teaser:
“School Days with a Pig” is slated for release in Japan on November 1, 2008.

i was watching this last night, with interest, because although this seemed to fit the general trend of recent films that team young cast members (usually nubile women) with small furry animals, this “little piggy” went to school and got eaten by the pupils; it’s the gordon ramsey school of teaching kids how to appreciate the value in meat by showing them the effort and cost it takes to raise it to maturity, before holding their heads steady, locking open their eyes and forcing them to watch it’s throat being slit - okay, so i made that last bit up, but it’s still a nice idea for a carnivorous plot to a film.
so… that’s two films that both fit the trend and buck it at the same time - this and neko nade.
