Director Minoru Kawasaki (The World Sinks Except Japan, Executive Koala, The Calamari Wrestler) held a press conference yesterday for his upcoming kaiju parody The Monster X Strikes Back / Attack the G8 Summit (Girara no Gyakushuu / Toyako Summit Kiki Ippatsu). Attendees got an up-close look at the remarkably well-spoken Guilala, a monster who first appeared in the 1967 sci-fi movie Uchu Daikaiju Girara. Also in attendance was Akira Matsushita reprising his famous over-the-top impersonation of former Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

The daikaiju genre is nothing new to Kawasaki, who directed the 2006 movie "Zettai Yaseru Den Ace Uchu Dai Kaiju Girara Tojo!" in which a man turns into a 2000 meter tall superhero whenever he starts to feel good, only to have this ability work against him when he works as a high school teacher in Niigata and his female students develop crushes on him.

Guilala Strikes Back is scheduled to be released this summer.
