A press conference was held by Toei Company in Nerimaku Tokyo on Sunday for Kankuro Kudo’s upcoming rock ‘n’ roll comedy Shonen Merikensack. Kudo was in attendance along with stars Aoi Miyazaki, Yuichi Kimura, Tomorowo Taguchi, Hiroki Miyake, Yusuke Santamaria, and Koichi Sato. The press conference covered fairly typical promotional fluff. Kudo expressed his appreciation of Toei’s trust in him, Sato talked about the energy of the film and his love of rock music, and Miyazaki talked about how she was initially tentative because she doesn’t like loud music but when she finally saw the band together she though it was really cool. She also said if she was ever in a band she’d want to play the drums.

The plot of the movie revolves around a record company office worker named Kanna (Miyazaki) who discovers an aging punk rock band called Shonen Merikensack (roughly “Brass Knuckle Boys") and subsequently decides to represent them on behalf of her company. Shooting recently wrapped and a theatrical release is tentatively scheduled for early 2009.
