Even though Paco and the Magical Picture Book seems like it’s pretty squarely geared toward little kids, it’s been getting a lot of attention in the west both for its director: Tetsuya Nakashima (Memories of Matsuko, Kamikaze Girls), and its star-studded cast: Koji Yakusho, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Anna Tsuchiya, Sadao Abe, Ryo Kase, and Eiko Koike to name a few. The story involves a little girl named Paco, played by newcomer Ayaka Wilson, who is staying in a hospital following a car accident that killed both her parents and left her with a brain injury that limits her memory to a single day. One day she tries to read her picture book on a bench next to grumpy old man named Onuki (Yakusho), but he bumps her off and laughs. However, as he discovers more about her he begins to change as a person and decides to do something special for her involving her picture book.
Toho is holding a special drawing to choose 100 lucky fans to win 2 tickets for an early screening of the film at the Tokyo International Forum to be held on July 29, 2008—almost 2 months before the film’s public release on September 13th. Cast and staff will also be in attendance for greetings from the stage following the screening.
More importantly for fans on the other side of the planet is the fact that Toho also released a shiny new full trailer for the film today. Check it out below:

Hrm, you’re right. I just googled and it’s just pages and pages of aggregation.
I didn’t really like the teasers but the trailer makes it seem a lot more charming. I’m the last person on the planet that still hasn’t seen Memories of Matsuko or Kamikaze Girls so the Nakashima-factor has been lost on me so far.

...get to it then. you’ll need to check the dvdbeaver comparison to pick a ‘kamikaze girls’ disc, but the ‘memories of matsuko’ one is a given : the only obvious, trust-worthy edition came out in HK. lovely.

I had a look around earlier, and could hardly find any coverage of the film beyond the page at that koji yakusho fansite.
rather have something imaginative squarely aimed at the kiddies - even if nakashimas approach could still be deceptive - that some more stuff made for kids who like to think of themselves as adults.
its a nice trailer.
