Chalk me up as one of the people who, until recently, totally dismissed Eriko Sato as a relatively talentless actress who gets hired a lot for her pouty pornface and ginormous rack. My opinion totally flipped when I watched 2007’s “Funuke Show Some Love, You Losers!” and witnessed her pull off one of the most convincing horrendous she-bitch roles in recent memory with utter conviction and not so much as a hint of the vapid qualities she often displayed in some of the previous roles leading up to it. That’s the main reason I’m paying any attention whatsoever to what appears to be the latest in a trend that ironically refuses to die: the terminal illness romantic drama.
In Aki Fukaki (literally “Deep Autumn"), Norito Yashima plays a middle school teacher whose parents run a Butsuguya, a shop that sells Buddhist altar goods. When he falls for a bar hostess named Kazuyo (Sato), he starts going out to drink all the time just to be around her. After a very brief courtship the two move in together. However, it isn’t long before he starts to get jealous whenever she’s around other men. Then one day she starts to complain about pain in her breast and has to go to the hospital where she receives some bad news…
Here’s the trailer:
“Aki Fukaki” opens in November.

How can i forget her role in “Funuke, Show some respect, you losers!” It was definately her best role among her movies and she can play as a “bitch” very well and i watched the movie from the dvd R3 which i bought. Now, Eriko is going to be in the currently “it” genre huh

Hmm, while I certainly wouldn’t say I’ve though her to be a good actress, she’s cute and bubbly. And in interviews she seems to poke fun at herself a bit. Would definitely like to see this one though. Sato as a “horrendous she-bitch”? I’m there.
