Katsuhiro Omoto’s landmark sci-fi anime, based on his own 1982 manga. Set in 2019, the city of “Neo Tokyo” is still dealing with the aftermath of the enormous bomb blast of 1988, which led to the start of World War III. A group of meek-looking children now posses tremendous psychic powers, and neither scientists or military officers are sure of what to do with them. It’s eventually revealed that the most powerful of these psychics in history, known only as “Akira”, was the one responsible for the explosion. Therefore, when a young biker gang member named Tetsuo begins to exhibit similar mental frequencies, he is quickly whisked away by military personnel. Unfortunately, however, his metamorphosis cannot be stopped. Will he become super-human or super-monster?

Aside from the cover art and packaging, this release is almost identical to the Japanese version by Bandai Visual.
