Bashing

Yoko (Fusako Urabe) is taken prisoner in Iraq while trying to offer humanitarian aid. When she’s finally released she discovers that she’s considered an embarrassment to many people in Japan who disliked the international attention her capture received. She loses her job as a chamber maid due to constant harassing phone calls and even endures physical violence. Her boyfriend leaves her, explaining that her need to go overseas to offer aid was selfish considering she could have stayed in Japan and helped people locally. When her father—the only supportive person left in her life—dies, her anger and feeling of isolation make her decide to go back to the one place in the world where she’s ever felt needed and appreciated: the Middle East. Region 1, NTSC, 1.66:1 widscreen, letterboxed. Japanese audio track with English subtitles. Includes Facets Cine-Notes booklet with background information.
