In Buraikan, aka “The Scandalous Adventures of Buraikan”, the stories of multiple characters intersect as they attempt to make a living during Japan’s chaotic Tempou revolution. Naojiro (Tatsuya Nakadai) wants to become an actor and get notoriety in the tabloids. He also has designs on marrying a geisha against the will of her disapproving mother. A man who abandons his family returns to them only to discover tragedy has struck. a “buraikan” plots to overthrow the man responsible for the recent puritanical social reforms. Based on a popular stage play.
