The Geneon Toho Live Action Collection features four live-action Toho films previously released by Geneon USA packaged together in one priced-down 4-disc set.

In Rainbow Kids (Daiyukai, 1991), three men kidnap a kindly old woman named Ms. Tanagawa (Tanie Kitabayashi) and demand a randsom for her safe release. A battle of wits ensues between the kidnappers and police, both trying to use the media to their own advantage. However, Ms. Tanagawa isn’t quite as helpless as everyone is led to believe. In The Family Game (Kazoku Gemu, 1983), Ichirota Miyagawa plays the lazy, underachieving son of a wealthy family named Shigeyuki Numata. When he meets his no-nonsense tutor Yoshimoto (Yusaku Matsuda), he’s forced to shape up in order to get accepted to a good school. However, it soon becomes apparent that Yoshimoto’s teaching is not over as he masterminds one final lesson for the Numata family. For individual release info, see this link. [Watch trailer]

In My Secret Cache (Himitsu no Hanazono, 1997), Sakiko (Naomi Nishida) is a bank teller whose singular focus in life is accumulation of money. One day during a robbery she gets taken hostage and is driven off along with 5 million yen. There is a sudden crash, killing everyone but her, that sends the car to the bottom of a watery grotto. Nobody but Sakiko believes the cash survived the accident so from that point on her unwavering persistence and greed drive her to take any steps necessary to retrieve it. In All About Our House (Minna no Ie, 2001), two newlyweds decide to build their dream home, and hire an old friend, Yanagisawa, to design it. Unfortunately Yanagisawa isn’t licensed to build homes so they call in the wife’s father, a retired carpenter, to help out. When Yanagisawa’s contemporary ideas clash with the old carpenter’s traditional Japanese methods the project becomes a huge mess. For individual release info, see this link. [Watch trailer]
