Hana: The Tale of a Reluctant Samurai (Hana Yori mo Naho, 2006) is set in 1702 Japan during a time of peace. However, poverty is still a widespread problem. A young warrior named Soza is on a mission to restore his family name by avenging his murdered father. His mission is sponsored by samurai in Edo, and he stands to collect a 100 ryo reward for successfully exacting his vengeance. However, Soza is soon confronted by his own ineptitude with a blade and the harsh reality of perpetuating a seemingly endless string of hate and revenge when there may be a less harmful alternative.
