This 6-disc box set features live-action adaptations of Hideshi Hino’s most bizarre horror manga stories. Included in the set are “The Boy From Hell”, “Lizard Baby”, “Dead Girl Walking”, “Death Train”, “Ravaged House: Zoroku’s Disease”, and “Occult Detective Club: The Doll Cemetery”. Region 1, NTSC. Japanese audio with English subtitles.
In The Boy From Hell (Jigoku Kozo), an old woman brings a grieving mother’s son back to life, but as a decomposing rampaging monster. [Watch trailer]
In Lizard Baby (Kaiki! Kitai Matoi Mi), a horror movie screenwriter writes a screenplay about a woman who gives birth to a reptile, which is inspired by the fact that his wife is pregnant. His wife disapproves, but he continues on with the project anyway. When his wife finally gives birth they discover their own child has lizard-like features, mirroring his movie’s plot. In Dead Girl Walking (Kaiki! Shinin Shojo), Sayuri’s body continues to function while continuing to slowly decompose after being pronounced dead by her doctor. Her family attempts to burn her animated corpse but she runs for her life. A man captures her and makes her perform at a freak show before a strange audience of men dressed in black clothes. She eventually gets her chance at escape, but she doesn’t get far. [Watch trailer]
In Death Train (Kyofu Ressha), three high school students board a train on their day off and suddenly hear a loud noise and see a blinding flash of light. The next day they return to school, but everything seems just a little bit off. Not only that, but strange men in black begin chasing them and they keep having visions, unable to tell the difference between fantasy and reality. [Watch trailer]
In Ravaged House: Zoroku’s Disease (Tadareta Ie: Zoroku no Kibyo), a villager named Soroku contracts a mysterious disease that deforms his skin and body. When villagers ostracize him and attack his sister, his parents decide to put an end to his misery. His sister won’t allow this and helps him escape, with no plan of where to go after that. In Occult Detective Club: The Doll Cemetery (Occult Tantei-dan Shi-ningyo no Hakaba), Daisue and Nanami join their high school’s occult research club to investigate a curse they believe started when a student committed suicide last year. They find an old doll in the back of her closet they believe to be a clue, but the doll actually has evil powers. [Watch trailer]
