Following an accident, elementary school student Satoru Iwamoto is left temporarily confined to a wheelchair. Coupled with the recent loss of his mother his situation causes him to keep to himself in his room, unwilling to venture outside. In response to his son’s reclusive behavior Satoru’s father, Kaoru, designs a special robot which Satoru can control from home and sent to school in his place. His classmates nickname the robot Hinokio and Satoru himself discovers love, happiness, and friendship through his experiences controlling it.
