In Horrors of Malformed Men (Edogawa Rampo Taizen: Kyofu Kikei Ningen, 1969), a young medical student named Hirosuke escapes from a mental institution and pretends to be a dead man in an attempt to unravel the mystery of a man who looks exactly like him that keeps popping up in the newspaper. He travels to a remote island and discovers a mad scientist who turns normal humans into malformed monsters. However, that’s only the beginning of the horrifying things Hirosuke will soon discover.
