In Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (Kozure Okami: Kowokashi Udekashi Tsukamatsuru, 1972), Ogami Itto (Tomisaburo Wakayama) gets stripped of his title of the Shogun’s executioner and is branded an outlaw after being framed for treason. In Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx (Kozure Okami: Sanzu no Kawa no Ubaguruma, 1972), a distrustful Ogami continues on his path of blood by working as an assassin-for-hire. On the way to his next assignment, to murder a traitor, he faces off against a group of female ninjas of the Yagyu clan.

In Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades (Kozure Okami: Shinikazeni Mukau Ubaguruma, 1972), Ogami rescues a prostitute who murdered her pimp in self-defense. As his code of honor dictates, he endures brutal torture in her place before continuing his travels. However, his handling of the situation catches the attention of someone in need of his services.

In Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril (Kozure Okami: Oya no Kokoro Ko no Kokoro, 1972), Ogami is ordered to kill a tattooed martial arts expert: an intriguing woman named Oyuki (Michie Azuma). Meanwhile, an army of warriors is hot on his trail.

In Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in the Land of Demons (Kozure Okami: Meifumado, 1973), Ogami is challenged by five warriors as a test of his skill, each holding 1/5th of the details of his next assignment.

In Lone Wolf and Cub: White Heaven in Hell (Kozure Okami: Jigoku e Ikuzo! Daigoro, 1974), Ogami finally has his chance to put an end to the treacherous Yagyu clan and their leader, Lord Retsudo.
