Masters of Horror - Season 1, Vol. 4 [Blu-ray] - Anchor Bay

This Blu-ray disc contains 4 episodes of the Showtime “Masters of Horror” series. Most importantly, this is the volume that includes the episode pulled from the original broadcast for being too over the top—Takashi Miike’s Imprint.

In Takashi Miike’s Imprint, an American journalist journeys to Japan to search for the woman he left there years earlier. He eventually arrives at an island with prostitutes who cater to the lowest of clientèle. Forced to choose a companion for the night, he picks a girl with a horribly scarred face (Youki Kudoh). Over the course of the next few hours she weaves a tale of her shady past which includes the fate of his former lover, with each version of her story getting more gruesome and consequently closer to the horrific truth.

In Joe Dante’s Homecoming, the presidential incumbent publicly voices his wish that all dead soldiers were able to come back from the grave for the upcoming election. Remarkably, he gets his wish. However, things don’t quite turn out the way he planned.

In John McNaughton’s Haeckel’s Tale, a necromancer warns a potential customer about the dangers of bringing people back from the dead by relaying the story of Ernst Haeckel. In the late 1800s Haeckel took shelter with an old man named Wolfram and his young wife. They had previously accepted the help of a necromancer named Montesquino, and it isn’t long before Haeckel discovers the disturbing secret of their arrangement.

In Mick Garris’s Chocolate, a lonely food lab worker named Jamie gains a psychic link to a Chicago model whenever he eats a certain type of chocolate. He becomes obsessed and falls in love with her, even after he psychically witnesses her kill a lover. As his obsession grows he manages to find out where she lives. But when he finally decides to pay her a visit, things don’t turn out too well.
