Ping Pong

Based on a Taiyo Matsumoto manga, Ping Pong explores the comedic side of table tennis through the exploits of longtime friends Peco (Yosuke Kubozuka) and Smile (Arata). Peco introduced Smile to the game after rescuing him from some bullies and ever since then the two have been joined at the hip. Peco is a bit more obsessive than Smile, and strives to be the best player he can possibly be, but it seems to come easily to Smile without even trying. Smile tends to go easy on opponents so as not to embarrass them, especially Peco, but his lack of a killer instinct drives his coach Ota (Naoto Takenaka) up the wall. Peco eventually gives up on the game after a humiliating defeat in a tournament, but Smile continues playing in anticipation of the day that his friend will return to the game.

Region 1, NTSC, anamorphic widescreen, 2 discs. Japanese audio with English subtitles. Features include making-of (54 mins.), “Ting Pong”: a parody of the film (16 mins.), “How To Play Ping Ping” short film (16 mins.), cast/crew info, TV spots, and trailers.
