Shiki-Jitsu

In Hideaki Anno‘s second feature film, Shiki-Jitsu, a filmmaker (Shunji Iwai) who returns to his hometown and meets a strange girl (Ayako Fujitani) who claims tomorrow is her birthday. He returns the next day with a gift, but she refuses it, repeating that tomorrow is her birthday. Over the next few weeks he gets to know this girl better, staying at her place in a rundown old factory while filming a documentary about her. It becomes clear that she’s very lonely and chooses to perpetually lives out the same day over and over again for some unknown reason.

Region 2, NTSC, 16:9LB Cinemascope, DVD9. Japanese audio with optional English and Japanese subtitles. Features include short film “Tetsudo to Shojo”, making-of “Autoki, Kokyo nite”, and alternate ending credit sequence (multi-angle). Also included: photo book.
