Sway

Sway (Yureru), written and directed by Miwa Nishikawa (Wild Berries), was an official Selection at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and winner of Best Picture at the Kinema Jumpo Awards. In the film Joe Odagiri plays Takeru, a successful photographer living in Tokyo. To fulfill his family obligation, he returns to his hometown on the 1-year anniversary of his mother’s death. When he arrives, he happens to run into his ex-girlfriend Chieko (Yoko Maki). Following a tragic series of events, Chieko causes Takeru’s brother, Minoru (Teruyuki Kagawa), to be arrested. Throughout his trial, years of suppressed rage and hatred between the two brothers bubbles to the surface and begins to tear the family apart.
