Go Seigen was born in Fujian Province, China. Called a boy genius by his peers, he took up the board game Go at the relatively late age of 9 but amazingly reached a professional level by 12. Due to his reputation as an incredibly skilled player he was invited to immigrate to Japan in 1928. He spent the next several years establishing himself as the best Go player in the world. When World War II began his mother was forced to return to China but he had to stay and continue his duties. Then, in 1944 he was drafted but received a chronic illness exemption. After this incident his feelings of isolation in Japan grew and almost ruined the joy he felt from playing the game much of his life was defined by.
This is a Hong Kong DVD release. Region 3, NTSC, anamorphic widescreen 2.35:1. Multiple language audio tracks with optional English and Chinese subtitles. Disc includes making-of featurette.
