The Mourning Forest - NHK Enterprises

In a rural retirement home a particularly excitable resident named Shigeki (Shigeki Uda) can’t seem to get over the death of his wife 33 years earlier. Only one worker, Machiko (Machiko Ono), can calm him down. She is patient with him and understands his grief, having experienced the loss of a child. On Shigeki’s birthday, Machiko decides to invite him on a drive through the countryside, but along the way car trouble forces her to leave him for a moment to get help. Shigeki, now traumatized, seizes the opportunity to flee from Machiko into the woods and she has no choice but to follow. Now lost, the two must contend with the elements while Machiko accompanies Shigeki on an unknown journey he is now determined to complete.
