In Tokyo Sonata (2008), acclaimed director Kiyoshi Kurosawa offers his take on one of the staples of Japanese cinema, the family drama. When patriarch Ryuhei Sasaki (Teruyuki Kagawa) loses his job, he doesn’t tell his family what happened. Instead, he leaves his home each morning, briefcase in hand, and fruitlessly searches for a new job. As the situation goes on and stress begins to mount, his once-normal family unit begins to deteriorate. Winner of the 2008 Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at Cannes.
This is a UK release. All regions, PAL. Japanese audio with English subtitles. Features TBA.
