When the Last Sword Is Drawn - Shochiku

In the late Edo period Kanichiro Yoshimura (Kiichi Nakai) joins the Shinsegumi clan for the steady income to provide for his family. Fellow samurai Hajime Saito (Koichi Sato) is offended when he discovers this, and challenges Yoshimura to a duel.Yoshimura fends him off rather easily, however, having had to rely on his own craftiness and adaptability much more than Saito throughout his life. The two men grow to understand each other better even though they represent opposing eras at a time of great change in samurai history.
