In Who’s Camus Anyway? (Kamyu Nante Shiranai, 2005), a group of film students set out to create a film called “The Bored Murderer”. In the story a young man viciously murders an old woman in her home for no apparent reason. When he is questioned about it later he admits he did it just to see how it would feel. The line between film and reality becomes blurred when the students repeatedly echo this sentiment as they muddle through their lives with little regard for the effect their actions have on the people around them.
