10 Promises to My Dog is a Japanese movie directed by Katsuhide Motoki. It was released by Shochiku on March 15, 2008.
Based on a novel by Hare Kawaguchi which was inspired by the anonymously-authored article “The Ten Commandments of Dog Ownership”, the film chronicles the relationship of a girl named Akari (played by Mayuko Fukuda and Lena Tanaka) and her dog, Socks. Before Akari’s mother dies, she gives Akari a list of 10 promises from Socks’s perspective. Years later, Akari reflects on these promises, wondering if she has been the best dog owner she could be.
