8000 Miles 2: Girl Rappers

8000 Miles 2: Girl Rappers is a Japanese movie written and directed by Yu Irie and is the followup to his 2008 rap comedy, 8000 Miles. It premiered at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival on February 26, 2010 and was released publicly on June 26, 2010.

Similar to the setup of the first film, the story involves a group of aspiring rappers (this time, girls) living in a remote area (this time, Gunma). The girls love hip-hop, so they decide to form a group, but, of course the citizens of Gunma don’t readily accept or appreciate their style of music. The group breaks up and their dreams fade as they get older.

Now living boring, repetitive lives, their passion is renewed when they visit their the place they used to practice. Excited, they agree to perform again for just one night, hoping to recapture the magic of hip-hop and the happy times in spent together in their youth.

However, various issues interfere and their newfound enthusiasm begins to get worn down by life’s everyday problems. Will they ever be able to perform together, or will the spark they had in their youth simply fade out again?
