A Boy and His Samurai is a Japanese movie based on Gen Araki’s novel “Fushigi no Kuni no Yasubei” and directed by Yoshihiro Nakamura. It was released by J Storm in Japan on July 31, 2010.
The film stars Rie Tomosaka as a hard-working mother named Hiroko Yusa who is raising her young son, Tomoya (Fuku Suzuki), all on her own. One day they come across a samurai named Yasubei who has somehow slipped forward in time from the Edo period to modern-day Tokyo.
Hiroko invites the homeless and confused swordsman to stay at their place, and he quickly begins making himself useful by babysitting and doing household chores during the day. Yasubei soon discovers he much prefers preparing pastries to his old samurai lifestyle and sets out to bring his confections to the public and he quickly establishes himself as a popular pastry chef in addition to becoming a vital part of the lives of his two new friends.
