Abacus and Sword is a Japanese movie directed by Yoshimitsu Morita and written by Michio Kashiwada. Distributor Shochiku released it in Ishikawa prefecture on November 27, 2010 and the rest of Japan on December 4, 2010.
The film is based on a real diary describing the life of a 3rd-generation samurai household during the late Edo period, in the midst of the Meiji Restoration which marked the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
