ALIVE is a Japanese action movie directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and based on a manga by Tsutomu Takahashi. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2002 and was domestically released by The Klock Worx in Japan on June 21, 2003.
Hideo Sakaki stars as Tenshu Yashiro, a death row inmate in a dark, futuristic prison who miraculously survives his own execution. He is moved to a containment cell next to a strange witch who is hosting some sort of powerful entity inside her body. The entity will only leave her body when it encounters someone more powerful who is filled with rage.
Because of that fact, the staff of the prison subject Yashiro to ramping levels of discomfort and a particularly antagonistic cellmate to goad him into becoming a new host. They underestimate how powerful he will be when he merges with it, however, and he takes on several waves of SWAT teams with his newfound super powers in an attempt to escape.
