Always: Sunset on Third Street 3

Always: Sunset on Third Street ‘64 is a Japanese 3D movie directed by Takashi Yamazaki and the third film of the blockbuster Always franchise. It was released by Toho in Japan on January 21, 2012.

Although the series is based on a Ryohei Saigan manga, the third film diverges from the original work by leaping forward to the year 1964. However, Saigan was consulted for ideas and signed off on the completed script.

Much of the film revolves around the excitement in 1964 around Tokyo hosting the Olympics. Construction is occurring at a rapid pace and Tokyo is rapidly moving toward a new era.

Meanwhile, on Third Street, the novelist Chagawa (Hidetaka Yoshioka) is now married to Hiromi (Koyuki) and they are still taking care of Junnosuke (Kenta Suga) as if he were their own while he attends high school. However, the popularity of Chagawa’s Adventure Boys Book Magazine is threatened by an upstart writer.

Meanwhile, the Suzukis have expended their car repair business to an impressive degree and Mutsuko (Maki Horikita) has a crush on a young doctor named Kikuchi (Mirai Moriyama) who she arranges to “accidentally” cross paths with every morning.
