Death Note: L, change the WorLd is a live-action Japanese movie directed by Hideo Nakata and the third installment of the Death Note film series which is based on a manga series by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. It premiered in Aichi Prefecture on January 31, 2008.
The film’s story takes place during the final 23 days genius detective L has left to live. After foiling the schemes of Light Yagami, aka “Kira”, L is still bound by the selfless act of writing his own name in the death note. After hearing of a small boy in Thailand who survived a bioterrorism attack consisting of a deadly man-made virus, L reasons that the boy may the key to his own survival and travels there to investigate.
Meanwhile, an elementary school student named Maki (Mayuko Fukuda) may be the key to humanity’s survival, as she’s in possession of an antidote created by her mother. With both these children under his care, L races to save both himself and the world.
Death Note: L, change the WorLd was preceded by Death Note and Death Note: the Last name. Both were released in 2006.
