Harakiri is a Japanese movie directed by Masaki Kobayashi. It was released by Shochiku in Japan on September 16, 1962.
The film stars Tatsuya Nakadai as a ronin who visits the compound of the Iyi clan, one of the few wealthy clans left in a time of extended peace.
Thinking the man is just another one of the many masterless samurai who’ve shown up in recent months to bluff committing seppuku for a handout, they intend to deal with him in the same brutal way they dealt with another man that came begging recently. However, he begins telling them a story which shakes the very foundation of the samurai code of honor they claim to stand for.
