I Give My First Love to You (2009)

I Give My First Love to You is a Japanese movie directed by Takehiko Shinjo. It’s based on a manga by Kotomi Aoki which was originally serialized in Sho-Comi in 2005. It premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 21, 2009 and was released by Toho in Japan on October 24, 2009.

Masaki Okada plays Takuma, a boy with a serious heart condition. As a child, he and his friend Mayu (Mao Inoue) made a pact to get married one day. In the current day, Takuma’s condition is worsening and doctors inform him that he won’t make it to age 20.

The pair enter high school together and Mayu continues to love him, but Takuma tries to push her away, not wanting to burden her with his imminent death.
