Kamui is a live-action Japanese movie directed by Yoichi Sai and based on Sanpei Shirato manga from the 60s and 80s. Shochiku released the film in Japan on September 19, 2009.
Kenichi Matsuyama stars as a ninja named Kamui who desperately wants to leave the life he’s been born and bred into, so he risks his life to escape his ninja brethren. Now Kamui lives on the run, under constant threat from his former clan, who punish deserters with death.
His life begins to get better when he meets a fisherman named Hanbei (Kaoru Kobayashi) and his family, but it isn’t long before he’s hunted down again, and his new friends are put at risk because of him.
