Keitai Kareshi, aka Mobile Phone Boyfriend, is a Japanese movie directed by Shinju Funabiki. It’s based on a mobile phone novel by kagen which was later released on paperback. The film is jointly distributed by GONZO and Synergy and was released theatrically in Japan on October 24, 2009.
Umika Kawashima stars as Satomi, a high school girl who is still reeling after her classmate Mayumi suddenly committed suicide after leaving behind an email stating “...killed by boyfriend”. Satomi and her friend Yuka (Aki Asakura) discover that Mayumi’s death may be linked to a cell phone dating simulation game called “Keitai Kareshi” and decide to investigate futher.
Satomi searches through Mayumi’s cell phone and finds an app called “Keitai Kareshi: Riku”. Soon, strange things start happening around her. A girl named Eri (Nozomi Maeda) dies when she tries to take the game herself, and is left holding a cell phone displaying the message “Love Gauge: 0”. The mystery deepens when Satomi takes the cell phone of her old friend Kumi and sees the face of her high school crush, Naoto (Hideo Ishiguro) on the screen.
