That’s the Way!! (2011)

That’s the Way!! is a Japanese movie directed by Hideaki Sato and based on a novel by Toshiki Takei entitled Akatsuka Fujio no Koto o Kaita no da!! The movie is a biopic of the late gag manga pioneer Fujio Akatsuka and was released by Toei in Japan on April 30, 2011.

Takei was Akatsuka’s editor and based the story on personal experiences. However, the film replaces his character with a female character named Hatsumi (Maki Horikita).

Hatsumi’s first introduction to Akatsuka (Tadanobu Asano) comes when he comes to publisher Shogakukan’s meeting for new employees dressed as Iyami from his gag manga “Osomatsu-kun”. He then gets the whole crowd of impressional young employees to do the character’s trademark “Sheeeh!” pose, setting the precedent for what’s to come.
