Memories of Matsuko is a Japanese movie written and directed by Tetsuya Nakashima. It was released by Toho in Japan on May 27, 2006.
The film stars Miki Nakatani as a starry-eyed woman named Matsuko Kawajiri who spends her entire life searching for someone to love her as much as she would love them.
The story begins as a college student (Eita) is tasked with cleaning out the junk-filled apartment of his aunt, whose corpse was recently discovered in a park. While digging through the piles, he begins to piece together the life of a woman who lived a life of equal parts fairy tale and pure tragedy—eternally seeking happiness through the men she meets, but instead finding misery and abuse at every turn.
