Mitsuko Baisho is a highly-respected Japanese actress who has worked with prolific directors like Shohei Imamura, Akira Kurosawa, and Hideo Gosha. She was born on November 22, 1946 in Ibaraki Prefecture.

Over the span of Baisho’s 40+ year career, she has successfully transitioned from playing roles which required her to be an exotic seductress to more matriarchal characters—though to many that grew up watching her in films, she will always be remembered as a buxom screen siren.

Her older sister is actress Chieko Baisho.
